After scanning, you will be directed to a fake IRS website, which may request personal information, wallet information, exchange account credentials, or other sensitive data.

The IRS said it did not operate a platform called the “Digital Asset Compliance Portal,” nor did it send these letters. According to reports, Coinbase and DarkTower have traced the infrastructure behind the campaign to a recently registered domain name hosted in Romania.
