Cardano founder Hoskinson: If governance fails to cope with quantum threats, Bitcoin may lose its first position

Comparing news, Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson said that quantum computing could be a major test of Bitcoin's ability to govern. If the Bitcoin network fails to coordinate the necessary upgrades, BTC could lose its status as the world's largest crypto asset. Hoskinson said that the problem with Bitcoin is that it is “frozen in time,” making any changes very difficult. He believes that early disappointment with Bitcoin's lack of flexibility was one of the reasons that drove the birth of Ethereum.

SecondFi will gradually shut down wallet services due to $2.6 million ADA theft

Comparing news, SecondFi, the Cardano ecosystem wallet, said that the platform will gradually shut down SecondFi and Yoroi wallet services due to cryptographic flaws in the wallet software, about 16.1 million ADAs were stolen, worth about $2.6 million. The incident affected 374 wallets. SecondFi said that an independent investigation by blockchain intelligence agency Groom Lake identified the attackers as complex external actors and uncovered indicators likely related to North Korea's Lazarus Group, but no attribution has been confirmed. SecondFi is developing recovery tools based on zero-knowledge proofs to help affected users recover assets and limit the information to be shared. The tool is still being tested and will be audited by a third party before it is scheduled to be released in August. SecondFi is also preparing a wallet export function to allow users to migrate assets to other services. The platform did not announce a direct compensation plan, nor did it specify whether it will use its own funds to reimburse users. Midnight Foundation: Wanchain Cardano BNB Bridge Attacked, Multiple Exchanges Jointly Freeze Related Assets

In comparison, according to the Midnight Foundation (@midnightfdn) official article, a security attack occurred on the Wanchain Cardano BNB cross-chain bridge. Currently, many mainstream exchanges such as KuCoin, Kraken, Binance, Bybit, OKX, and MEXC have responded quickly and taken preventive measures to limit the flow of stolen assets, including freezing relevant accounts and addresses, blacklisting attackers' wallets, and suspending deposit and withdrawal services for NIGHT tokens. The exchange confirmed that this incident was an isolated third-party bridging vulnerability and had nothing to do with the Midnight Network main network and NIGHT assets themselves. Cardano completes the “Van Rossem” hard fork, the first upgrade led by community voting

Comparatively, according to CoinDesk, the Cardano mainnet completed the “Van Rossem” hard fork on July 18, and the protocol version was upgraded to 11, which mainly reduces smart contract execution costs and paves the way for subsequent expansion plans. For the first time, this upgrade was entirely proposed, discussed, and voted on by the community through an on-chain governance process, rather than directly led by the founding development company Input Output. According to on-chain data, the voting approval rate of representatives was about 78.97%. All 7 members of the Constitutional Council determined that the proposal was in line with the Cardano Constitution, about 53.02% of node operators voted for it, and more than 93% of the block production pledges have already run the new version of the node. The upgrade makes technical and procedural preparations for Ouroboros Leios, a subsequent expansion plan scheduled to launch in 2026.

Cardano completes the first full on-chain governance hard fork in network history

Comparatively, Cardano activated the Van Rossem hard fork on July 18, 2026 at 9:44:51 UTC, the network was upgraded to protocol version 11, and no outages were reported. The upgrade is part of the Conway ledger era and aims to reduce the cost of running Plutus smart contracts, enhance ledger security, and add new cryptographic tools. Van Rossem includes 5 Cardano improvement proposals involving BLS12-381 multi-scalar multiplication, on-chain array types, multi-asset value processing optimization, list operation acceleration, and built-in exponentiation. Staking pools are now prohibited from reusing the same verifiable random function key across the network; each pool must hold a unique key bound to its identity. The upgrade was completed through Cardano's on-chain governance process, and everything from proposal to activation is driven by on-chain voting. Delegates approved the plan with an approval rating of 77.63%. The support rate for the pledge pool operator was 52.7%, and the Constitutional Council vote was 6-0-0-1. The total balance of wallets holding 100,000 to 100 million ADA has risen to its highest level since 2023, and currently controls more than a quarter of the circulating supply of ADA. Cardano will continue to advance Ouroboros Leios and aims to exceed 1000 transactions per second during the 2026 testing period.
