Hong Kong received 25 online dating fraud cases in a single week. A woman was induced to invest in virtual currency and lost over HK$26 million

Comparative news, according to Hong Kong media East Network, according to statistics from Hong Kong law enforcement authorities, 25 investment fraud cases involving online dating were received from July 24 to 30, with a total loss amount of close to HK$70 million. In one of the large-scale online dating investment fraud cases, an insurance practitioner in his fifties was tricked into investing in virtual currency by an online dating partner claiming to be a “car dealer”, and ended up losing over HK$26 million.

The police warned that investors should be wary of recommending investment projects after establishing relationships through social platforms, especially investment opportunities involving virtual currency, guaranteeing high returns, or requiring transactions through unfamiliar platforms, and never relax financial security precautions due to feelings or trust.
